Meeting

The Council of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) (NIHR) held its 11th ordinary meeting at the NIHR headquarters in Seef District. The meeting was presided over by His Excellency Dr. Abdul Aziz Hassan Abul, Chairman of NIHR.

During the meeting, the annual election of the permanent specific committees took place, where His Excellency Mr. Abdullah Ahmed Al-Derazi was elected chairman of the Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee, and Her Excellency Maria Khoury, His Excellency Mr. Abdul Jabbar Ahmed Al-Tayib were elected members of the Committee. Her Excellency Jamilah Ali Salma was elected Chairperson of the Civil and Political Rights Committee and His Excellency Farid Ghazi Rafi and His Excellency Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al-Sa’ati as members of the Committee. Her Excellency Dr. May Sulaiman Al-Otaibi was elected chairperson of the Economic, Social and Cultural Committee, and Her Excellency Fawziah Said Al-Saleh and His Excellency Abdul Jabbar Ahmed Al-Tayib as members.

The Council reviewed a list of complaints and requests for assistance filed over the past period and received by NIHR. It also reviewed cooperation of the concerned government agencies with NIHR with respect thereto. The Council also discussed NIHR mechanism for implementation of the educational programs for the year 2014, in addition to the preparations of the delegation of NIHR which will participate in the discussion of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s third report before the Committee on Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Woman (CEDAW) which will be held on 11 November 2014 at the Palace of Nations in Geneva.

At the end of the meeting, the Council of Commissioners decided to convene its 12th ordinary meeting on Tuesday 25 February 2014.
