Board holds Fifth Meeting

The Board of Directors of the National Institution for Human Rights held its Fifth Ordinary Meeting under the Chairmanship of its Vice President, Abdullah Ahmad Alderazi at its headquarters in Seef.
During the meeting, the final report of the Special Committee on draft regulations concerning the organization and functioning of the NIHR was discussed, and these regulations were adopted in accordance with its provisions.
The meeting reviewed a request from the President of the University of Bahrain on the potential for NIHR to train students of the Faculty of Law on human rights issues in cooperation with its legal clinic and human rights programme.
The Board praised the role of the university to give importance to human rights.
The Board also reviewed a request from the High Commissioner for Human Rights to nominate institutions of civil society organizations for the United Nations Prize in the field of Human Rights for 2013, which was established by a United Nations General Assembly Resolution on December 19, 1966. The prize will be awarded during a Ceremony at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York, December 10, 2013, which coincides with the anniversary of the International Day of Human Rights.
The Board examined the NIHR stance on the freedom of association and the right to organize trade unions in Bahrain. It was agreed to submit this to the Government.
The Board also reviewed the monthly report on complaints and requests for assistance received by the institution.
It was agreed to hold the Sixth Ordinary Meeting on July 22.
