24 Nov 2024

The twenty second regular meeting of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Council of Commissioners Bureau, chaired by Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, included the participation of the Vice Chairperson and the heads of the NIHR standing committees, with the Child Rights Commissioner, and the Secretary General in attendance.

The meeting highlighting the NIHR participation, represented by its Chairperson, in a regional workshop titled "Enhancing Legislative and National Safeguards Against Torture and Ill-Treatment," held in Casablanca, Morocco, earlier this month. This event was organized by the National Council for Human Rights of the Kingdom of Morocco in collaboration with the Regional Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights for the Middle East and North Africa.

Subsequently, the Bureau discussed ways to enhance cooperation and joint efforts among the institution's permanent specialized committees to improve the effectiveness of its role in protecting and promoting human rights. Strategies were outlined for mechanisms that integrate efforts and exchange expertise to maximize benefits, ensure the institution fulfills its core responsibilities, and achieve its foundational goals. These aims include developing the rights system in the kingdom to benefit all society segments.

In its pursuit to strengthen its international stature in the field of human rights, the council agreed during its meeting to a proposal for preparing periodic reports. These reports will detail the institution's activities, including handling complaints, providing legal assistance, and offering advisory opinions on national legislation, and highlight the efforts of the institution and its permanent committees.
