NIHR Commissioners Bureau Convene its 10th Regular Meeting

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National institution for Human Rights (NIHR), chaired the 10th meeting of the NIHR Commissioners Bureau at the NIHR’s Headquarters in the Seef district. Present were the NIHR’s Vice-Chairman and Heads of the NIHR’s permanent committees. The meeting opened its agenda by praising the success of the activities of the International Conference “Alternative Sanctions and Measures Law: A Qualitative Experience in Criminal Legislation”, and its outputs that will have a significant impact in contributing to the reform of the convicts and their integration into the society in terms of empowering them in the academic field.
In the same context, Al Derazi stated that the final recommendations of the conference will be sent to a number of official entities in the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as to the relevant bodies to start activating them and include them in national laws and legislation, and to benefit from the experiences of other countries and find out the best practices in the field of alternative sanctions and measures.
On the other hand, the Commissioners Bureau stated the importance of the NIHR’s participation in the 41st session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) that will be launched in November 2022, where the Kingdom of Bahrain will be the first country to be reviewed in this session.
It is worth mentioning that the NIHR has submitted its parallel report to the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review, which is available on the website of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UPR Section) or the NIHR website www.nihr.org.bh (Reports Section).
