NIHR’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities Holds its 18th Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities has convened its 18th regular meeting at the NIHR’s headquarters in Seef district under presidency of D. Malallah Al-Hammadi and membership of Mrs. Hala Fayez and D. Hooreya Abbas.
The Committee opened its agenda by reviewing the course of its visit to the Foreign Male and Female Deportation Centre in Hidd, as well as the course of the visit conducted by it to the Batelco Child Welfare Home.
The Committee also reviewed its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon, especially those related to visiting some health institutions and government hospitals.
At the end of the meeting, the Committee members agreed to conduct a field visit to a university and a private school, in order to find out the various rights and guarantees for students and educational and administrative staff, which are stipulated and prescribed by the law, in a manner consistent with the basic principles of international human rights standards, based on the Committee's keenness to activate the NIHR’s oversight role over educational institutions and centres.
