NIHR’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights convenes its 21st regular meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights convened its 21st regular meeting at NIHR’s headquarters in Seef District under the chairpersonship of Mr. Fareed Ghazi. The Committee discussed various issues, notably shedding light on a series of events related to NIHR’s terms of reference in general and economic, social and cultural rights in particular, especially under the challenges facing the Kingdom of Bahrain and the emergence of the need to address them.
In a step towards periodic assessment of its work, the Committee discussed its achievements from January 2016 to date, including a number of proposals and studies, in addition to the Committee’s opinions on the Draft Laws referred to it by the Council of Representatives, which are relevant to economic, social and cultural rights.
It is worth mentioning that the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights is one of NIHR’s permanent specific committees, which is concerned with showing opinion on issues related to economic, social and cultural human rights, following-up relevant public opinion issues and information programs, studying the economic conditions in the Kingdom of Bahrain in terms of income level and prices, evaluating educational curricula and giving feedback on their development pursuant to international standards, following-up the application of relevant international conventions and treaties, and reviewing Kingdom’s reservations on some provisions of conventions joined by it.
