The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on the Rights of Persons Deprived of Liberty convened its 10th regular meeting at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef District under the chairpersonship of Dr. Hameed Ahmed Husain and membership of Ms. Deena Abdulrahman Alladhi and Mr. Ammar Ahmed Albannai.
The Committee opened its meeting by reviewing all its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon. In the same context, the Committee discussed the proposal to establish a permanent central library at the Centre for Reform and Rehabilitation of Inmates at Jaw Prison, with a view to reducing waiting times for inmates to obtain books, and concluded with communicating with the relevant authorities to obtain additional information in order to prepare its report thereon.
The Committee also examined its recent visits to a number of detention and care centres, the human rights conditions monitored during those visits and its recommendations thereupon, especially Foreigners Deportation Centre at Southern Region (Alba), where the Committee concluded by taking a number of urgent resolutions to conduct complementary visits to some centres to follow-up on the actions taken on its recommendations and to determine the conditions of inmates in those centres.
