NIHR’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities Convenes its 9th Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities has convened at the NIHR’s Headquarters in the Seef District its 9th regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Dr. Malallah Al-Hammadi.
The Committee opened its agenda by following up on its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon. Then, it discussed the course of the field visit that has been recently conducted to the Convicts Treatment Unit of the Mental Health Hospital, Dar Al-Karama Homeless and Beggars Shelter, and Dar Al-Aman Care Centre for Battered Women, where reports and observations were made in accordance with national and international standards for such visits.
During the meeting, the Committee members agreed to continue intensive field visits during the coming period. They suggested to conduct a visit to the Sickle Cell Anemia Department for men at Salmaniya Medical Complex, in order to closely review the services provided to the patients and the extent to which they enjoy their rights guaranteed in national and international legislation, in addition to conducting another field visit to a police station to be determined later.
