The NIHR’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Convenes its 17th Regular Meeting

The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in NIHR held its 17th regular meeting at the NIHR headquarters in the Seef District under the chairpersonship of Mr. Farid Ghazi. The meeting was attended by Committee Members Dr. Abdulrrahman Jawaheri and Dr. Jameela Al-Sammak.
In order to activate the Committee’s terms of reference and work related to the enhancement and protection of social rights, it reviewed the results of meeting of NIHR’s President Dr. Abdul-Aziz Hassan Abul and Committee members with Chairman of the Supreme Council for Health HE Lieutenant General Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, which focused on the national health insurance system, aims and action plans. The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health Dr. Aisha Bu Unuq and Secretary-General if the Supreme Council for Health Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nawakhda. During the meeting, attendees emphasized that the health insurance system covers Bahraini citizens and their equivalents and that the cost of medical services shall focus on a package of provided medical services in addition to the existence of various additional medical services in compliance with the provision of Article 8 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
It is worth mentioning that the Committee on Economic Rights is one of NIHR’s standing specific committee concerned with giving opinion on issues related to economic, social and cultural human rights, following-up on public opinion issues and relevant information programs, studying economic conditions in the Kingdom in terms of income and price level, evaluating educational curricula and showing feedback on their development pursuant to international standards and following-up the application of relevant international conventions and treaties.
