NIHR’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities Convenes its 12th Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities has convened its 12^th meeting at the NIHR’s Headquarters in the Seef District under the chairpersonship of D. Malallah Al-Hammadi, and membership of Mrs. Deena Alladhi and Mr. Daniel Cohen.

The Committee opened its agenda by following up on its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon, especially those related to the decision to prepare a form for criteria for visiting educational centres and what has been done about it, and aspects related to educational and training institutions and centres in preparation for Committee’s visit.

Based upon the Committee’s keenness to activate NIHR’s supervisory role, the Committee completed its discussions on field visits that will be conducted by it during the coming period to some health institutions and detention centres. Such visits aim to verify the human rights conditions of the inmates of those centres and ensure their enjoyment of the established rights and services provided in accordance with the basic principles of human rights standards.
