NIHR Concludes “My Rights” Program Event for Public Sector Employees
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), in partnership with the Judicial and Legal Studies Institute and Bahrain Institute for Political Development, concluded this morning the third event of “My Rights” program for the public sector employees, at the NIHR’s headquarters, which continued for two consecutive days, in the presence of Associate Professor of Criminal Law Dr. Abdul-Basset Al-Hakimi and Chairman of the Arab Human Rights Committee (Charter Committee) Chancellor Mohamed Jomaa Fazee.
Dr. Al-Hakimi presented the theme of the first day under the title of “International Legitimacy of Human Rights”, in which he discussed the importance of human rights at local and international levels, as well as the difference between human rights in ancient civilizations, modern times and in Islam.
Dr. Al-Hakimi also discussed the human rights sources in international law as well as its definition in the Universal Declaration of Human rights and the reasons for resorting to this Declaration. He further familiarized the participants with the two International Covenants on Human Rights, referring to the right to life, obligations of the states to protect this right and guarantees of execution of the death penalty in Bahraini legislation.
Chancellor Fazee presented the theme of the second day under the title of “Arab Charter on Human Rights”, in which he talked about the Arab human rights system, and the Arab states that ratified the Arab Charter, indicating the cooperation of the Kingdom of Bahrain with the Committee by virtue of its ratification of the Charter, and the rights which are guaranteed under this ratification.
Chancellor Fazee concluded the second session by talking about the work of the Arab Human Rights Committee “Charter Committee”, indicating mechanism of receiving reports and how to study and present such reports under legal bases, as well as mechanism of adopting feedback and final recommendations before sending them to the concerned states to submit their feedback.
