NIHR receives the Second Group of National Security Agency Employees as part of the Training Program for Agency Members

As part of the training program for the National Security Agency (NSA) employees on human rights matters, which aims to train 160 Agency members, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), in cooperation with the office of the Inspector-General of the NSA, organized a workshop for the second group of the Agency members on the “Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment”, presented by Dr. Mohamed Hamad Al-Haiti, Head of Public Law Department, Faculty of Law, University of Bahrain.

The workshop dealt with a number of themes, most notably:  Torture between International Vision and the Position of the Bahraini Legislature, International Convention Against Torture CAT) and International Covenant on Civil and political Rights (ICCPR)’s Position of Torture.

The training program of the NSA employees runs from January to September 2018, which is a comprehensive program that includes a series of relevant workshops, training courses and awareness lectures on national human rights mechanisms, the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the Optional Protocol, in addition to the review of international treaty mechanisms of the Human Rights Council.
