NIHR organized an Introductory Lecture for Shura Council Members

In collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Shura Council, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held an introductory lecture titled "The Paris Principles Related to the Operation of National Human Rights Institutions and the Mandate of the National Institution for Human Rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain" for several members of the Shura Council.

The lecture, delivered by Dr. Bader Mohammed Adel a Council of the Commissioner at NIHR, discussed the general concept of the Paris Principles concerning the status of national human rights institutions and the mandate of the institution in Bahrain. It emphasized the importance of these principles in enhancing the independence of institutions and their ability to perform their role effectively in protecting and promoting human rights. Additionally, the lecture reviewed the legal foundations upon which the institution relies to execute its mandate, including national legislation and international standards.

Eng. Ali Ahmad Alderazi, NIHR Chairperson, explained that the lecture aimed to enhance awareness of the critical role the institution plays in defending human rights and the challenges it faces in carrying out its duties, along with the efforts made to overcome these challenges. He noted that this event is part of the ongoing cooperation between the institution and the Shura Council to promote human rights culture and collaborative efforts between the two entities.

The session also included interventions from members of the Shura Council, who underscored the importance of cooperation between the National Institution and the legislative authority in enhancing human rights and ensuring better compliance with global practices. They commended the institution's role in spreading human rights culture and overseeing the implementation of relevant international agreements.
