NIHR Launches a Training Program on “International Mechanisms for the Protection of Human Rights”

Within the framework of its role in capacity-building and training national staff in the area of human rights, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) launched a 3-week training program on “International Mechanisms for the Protection of Human Rights” in English, in cooperation with Asia-Pacific Forum (APF) of national human rights institutions (NHRIs), during which trainees will be given scientific and theoretical materials and sill answer a number of questions and carry out a set of tasks using APF website for two weeks.  After that, there will be a practical training course at the NIHR headquarters for two consecutive days, during which participants will be provided with the necessary skills to understand the UN Human Rights System, understand the skills necessary for the nature of the NIHR’s role in the protection and promotion of human rights, develop their skills and transfer their expertise to others.

Ms. Fatima Abdul-Jaleel Al-Tareef, Head of the Training and Education Unit at the NIHR Secretariat-General, presented an introductory lecture about the NIHR and the role of the APF in supporting institutions in that region.  Ms. Lina Nasser Al-Baluchi, Lecturer in Human Rights  at the British University in Bahrain, presented a brief on the program, the mechanism of completing information via the electronic system, conditions of passing the program and its expected outcomes, taking into consideration that the candidates are required to pass 60% of the e-course in order to join the practical training.

This training was designed to promote constructive cooperation with the APF in the area of capacity-building and technical support, which will promote and protect human rights and introduce the basic international conventions and mechanisms of human rights and how to deal with them.
