Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), gave an introductory lecture to visitors from St.Peter's Church on the NIHR's role in the promotion and protection of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, within comprehensive awareness programs held by it in the field of human rights to expatriate workers.
During the lecture held at the Church, Ms. Khoury spoke about the NIHR's celebration of the 10th anniversary of its establishment this year as well as its legal framework and competencies in examining legislation and laws in-force relating to human rights in general and the rights of expatriate workers in particular. She also reviewed NIHR's mechanism of cooperation with national bodies and regional and international organizations in addition to mechanisms of receiving complaints, providing legal assistance and monitoring human rights situations.
The attendees praised the NIHR's efforts to protect and promote the rights of expatriate workers and the role of the NIHR's branch in Expatriate Workers Protection and Support Center at the National Committee against Trafficking in Persons in receiving complaints and raising awareness of the rights.
