NIHR receives the Third Batch of National Security Staff as part of their Training Program

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), in cooperation with the Office of the Inspector-General of the National Security Agency, organized a workshop for the third batch of Agency staff on “the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (UNCAT)” as part of the Agency staff training program on human rights, which targets to train 160 members to the Agency.

The workshop, presented by Dr. Mohamed Hammad Al-Hiti, Head of the Public Law Department at the College of Law, University of Bahrain, addressed a number of themes, including the UNCAT, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)’s position on torture, the international vision and the Bahraini legislature’s position thereon.

It is worth mentioning that the training program of the National Security staff runs from January to September 2018, which includes a series of workshops, training courses and integrated awareness lectures related to the national human rights mechanisms, the UNCAT and the Optional Protocol, as well as a review of the international treaty mechanisms of the Human Rights Council.
