NIHR Organizes a Training Course Entitled “limitations on Exercising Freedom of Opinion and Expression”

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) organized a training course entitled “Limitations on Exercising Freedom of Opinion and Expression”, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Netherlands This was within the two-day human rights training program for civil society organizations held in Isa Cultural Center. The course was delivered by Mr. Riyad Sobaih expert on human rights area

The training course was aimed at raising participants’ overall awareness of the concept of freedom of opinion and expression and ways to guarantee this right, as well as to introduce them to the basic principles of fostering and protecting the exercise of freedom of opinion and expression.

The training program featured a number of topics, including identification of the concept of freedom of opinion and expression, the concepts of human rights, the conditions to restrict freedoms and Bahrain’s obligations under the UN Charter and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.  Some of these themes dealt with the international sources of the right to freedom of opinion and expression as well as its relation to other international human right sources and where these rights came from, in addition to human rights generations, the international legitimacy of human rights and the freedom of association and trade unions.
