Statement by HE the Secretary General of the National Institution for Human Rights on the Declaration of Human Rights of the Gulf Cooperation Council
In a statement made to Bahrain News Agency, by the Secretary-General of the National Institution for Human Rights HE Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Farhan, on the declaration of human rights for the GCC States, which was issued at the conclusion of the 35th session of the GCC Supreme Council hosted by Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Tuesday, He emphasized that the announcement represents a quantum leap in the system of the Council's work emanating from their Majesties and Highnesses the leaders of the GCC countries belief of the importance of human rights.
HE the Secretary-General said that the National Institution foe Human Rights blesses the Declaration of the 35th session of the GCC Supreme Council, as the act of faith of their Majesties and Highnesses the leaders of the GCC countries on the importance of human rights represents a quantum leap in the system of the Council's work and harmonizes with the establishment of the Human Rights office in the GCC Secretariat General and the adoption of its mechanism in accordance with the vision put forward by the Kingdom of Bahrain for the GCC development in Manama on June 23, 2010 on the establishment of an office within the structure of the Secretariat General working to highlight and demonstrate to the world the GCC states achievements made or to be made in the field of human rights in coordination with the concerned authorities in the Member States.
HE the Secretary General of the National Institution for Human Rights confirmed that the institution will work in the next phase to build bridges of cooperation with the human rights office and strengthening cooperation through the Secretariat General of the GCC, to develop its work and to find a common mechanism of action to coordinate with the concerned authorities of human rights in the GCC countries. He pointed out that the national institution for human rights is currently doing a careful reading of the GGC human Rights Declaration to come out with an integrated study about it at a later stage.
