NIHR Celebrates Human Rights Day
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held a ceremony marking the Human Rights Day, globally observed annually on 10 December, in commemoration of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, deemed the first international document to ensure respect and protection of human rights and freedoms and an aspiration in drafting laws and constitutions.
During the ceremony, member of the Council of Commissioners Mr. Fareed Ghazi delivered the NIHR's speech. He said, "The NIHR is pleased to join the whole world, with all its human rights organizations and bodies, in celebrating this occasion, out of our belief that human-being is the real building and progress pivot in this universe. We are proud of Kingdom of Bahrain's being one of the UDHR committed countries, out of the belief of leadership and people that the human rights principles stipulated in the UDHR are considered a common achievement for all peoples and nations". He added, "We promise to continue to work on human rights enhancement, development and respect in Bahrain through the instruments and powers given to the NIHR, mainly the royal trust, and to cooperate with all partners, including official bodies and local, regional and international human rights organizations as well".
The NIHR takes this opportunity to reiterate thanks to His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa for issuing the Decree-Law amending some provisions of the NIHR's Establishment Law in order to converge with Paris Principles, as the current Law constitutes an ideal one and a milestone underscoring the human rights standing in the Kingdom of Bahrain and supports the NIHR's endeavor to promote and protect human rights in partnership with all relevant local and international parties.
The event was further attended by NIHR's Chairperson of the Council of Commissioners Dr. Abdul-Aziz Hassan Abul with a number of Council members and Assistant Foreign Minister Mr. Abdullah Bin Faisal Al-Dosari, in addition to a number of Their Highness members of the Council of Representatives, members of the Shura Council, representatives of various official bodies, ambassadors and diplomats accredited in the Kingdom and officials at the NIHR's General Secretariat.
