NIHR Chairman Meets with President of the Human Rights Council
Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has held a meeting with Ambassador Federico Villegas, President of the Human Rights Council, Permanent Representative of the Argentine Mission to the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the Universal Periodic Review mechanism of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which took place on the 18th this month, chaired by the President of the Human Rights Council, and what has taken place through the interactive dialogue between the delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain and members of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review.
The two sides also discussed the parallel report of the NIHR submitted to the Human Rights Council, and the recommendations contained in it, which covered various fields, including social justice, citizenship, child rights, rights of persons with disabilities, family law, the right to work, accession to international treaties and instruments concerned with human rights or those related to combating trafficking in persons and supporting the work of human rights defenders, and the independence of the NIHR and support for its role and competence in the field of protection and promotion of human rights.
For his part, the president of the Council stated the importance of the Universal Periodic Review and the role of national human rights institutions in providing recommendations that help advance issues related to the protection and promotion of all human rights being institutions that enjoy independence and the ability to receive complaints and cooperate with their countries to find effective solutions to all relevant issues.
The meeting was attended by Mrs. Rawdha Al-Aradi, Chairman of the NIHR Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up, and Chancellor Yasser Ghanim Shaheen, NIHR Secretary-General.
