Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights receives a delegation from the Austrian Parliament
The Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights HE Dr. Abdul- Aziz Hassan Abul received a delegation from the Austrian Parliament accompanied by HE MP Mohammad Al-Jowdar at the National Institution headquarters in Al-Seef district.
During the meeting, the Chairperson of the National Institution welcomed the delegation, and presented a profile of the institution and its role in the dissemination, promotion and protection of human rights, especially after the establishment Law No. (26) for 2014 which granted the institution more administrative and financial autonomy in accordance with the Paris Principles governing the functioning of national institutions .
HE the Chairperson of the Institution also highlighted the superior achievements of the Chaillot Prize for the Promotion of Human Rights in the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf area for 2014, which came as a tribute to the Institution’s role and tireless efforts to protect and promote human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in addition to the local and international tribute for the integrity and neutrality of the annual report of the National Institution for Human Rights in 2013 on the human rights situation in the Kingdom.
He briefed the delegation on the National Institution's experience in receiving complaints and monitoring violations, and the training programs it presents to the various segments of society, either through cooperation with the Legal Clinic for Human Rights at the University of Bahrain, or the future judges program with the Supreme Judicial Council, as well as customized training programs for law enforcement officers, related to the promotion and protection of human rights.
For her part, the head of the delegation Her Excellency MP Christine Muttonen thanked the National Institution for the warm reception and expressed willingness to provide all the support for the sake of the National Institution to achieve its objectives and competencies, and to bolster joint cooperation in the field of promotion, protection and development of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The meeting was attended from the parliamentary delegation by HE MP Dr. Reinhold Lopatka, Chairman of the parliamentary group of the Austrian People's Party, Her Excellency MP Monica Muelfert board member of the Austrian Senate, Her Excellency Dr. Jesse Yentl member in the Austrian parliament, Her Excellency Dr. Brigitta Brenner Head of the European Union administration and international services for parliamentary management and HE Ulrich Frank Ambassador of Austria to the Kingdom of Bahrain. From the National Institution it was attended by HE Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Farhan Secretary-General, Mr. Yasser Ghanem Shaheen, Director of Legal Affairs, and Ms. Latifa Al- Jalahmah head of the International Mechanisms Unit.
