NIHR Delegation meets Northern Ireland Officials
A National Institution of Human Rights delegation participated in a human rights training programme in the United Kingdom and met with Northern Ireland Minister of Justice, David Ford who explained the role of the Ministry in managing prisons and in providing relevant international standards of human rights in the management and treatment of prisoners and detainees.
The Delegation also met with Northern Ireland Attorney General, John Larkin who provided the delegation with an overview on the role played by the Public Prosecutor in the maintenance of public rights, the fight against crime and the protection of human rights.
The delegation also called on Prison Grievances Secretary –General, Tom Makjal who explained the role of grievances in the investigation of complaints from prisoners and the mechanism of action and procedures that comply with international instruments on the protection of human rights.
