NIHR members visit Constitutional Court President

29 Dec 2015

President of the Constitutional Court, Judge Salim Bin Mohammed Salim Al Kuwari was presented with the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Annual Report for 2014, by NIHR President, Dr. Abdulaziz Hassan Abul and in the presence of NIHR members.  The Annual Report was handed over at the Supreme Judicial Council and office of the President of the Constitutional Court.

Judge Al Kuwari expressed how Bahrain’s judicial system and its judiciary were key to ensuring the protection of human rights and acts as a safety valve providing community guarantees relating to human rights as a whole. He further expressed how the Public Prosecutor represented the requirements of the community and individuals alike.

He said His Majesty the King’s reform project confirmed these standards and translated His Majesty’s noble objectives of safeguarding human rights in all areas. He said the judiciary was one of the most important institutions working to preserve human rights and the application of justice and equality.

Judge Al Kuwari thanked the NIHR Board and members for the visit and commended them on their role in providing a number of key workshops and training courses for the judges training project.

Dr. Abul thanked Judge Al Kuwari for the warm reception and hospitality given to him and his team, and for briefing the members on the latest developments in Bahrain’s judicial field, which, he said, reflected Bahrain’s image which was keeping pace with the reforms project of His Majesty the King. He further expressed how Judge Al Kuwari’s appreciation had given them even more confidence and optimism.

The Supreme Judicial Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the NIHR within the framework of the Principles of Human Rights, and aligned to the development of a mechanism for joint cooperation and exchange of information between the two parties.
