The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by its Chairperson, Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, participated in a panel discussion titled "National Human Rights Institutions and Emerging Digital Technologies in the Middle East and North Africa." This event was organized by the National Center for Human Rights in collaboration with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Amman, Jordan.

During his participation, Alderazi chaired the first session of the roundtable, which addressed four themes: the international human rights framework and its application to digital technologies, new technologies and the global digital governance charter, legal guarantees for protecting privacy and data in the digital age, and laws and experiences relating to new technology in the Middle East and North Africa.

At the session's conclusion, Alderazi thanked the participants and expressed hope for collaborative efforts to build a comprehensive system that protects human rights in cyberspace, ensures cybersecurity, and safeguards privacy amid the digital revolution and the rapid development of artificial intelligence applications. He emphasized the importance of evolving legislation to keep pace with swift technological advances and the establishment of courts specialized in digital technology.

The two-day session aimed to exchange ideas and discuss the state of human rights in the context of digital technologies, which offer vast opportunities for progress and innovation but also pose new challenges for the protection of individual rights and freedoms.
