NIHR Participates in a Seminar on Bahrain’s Human Rights Achievements
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by NIHR Vice chairperson Mr. Abdullah Al-Derazi and Head of NIHR Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Ms. Maria Khouri, participated in the seminar held by the Council of Representatives to review the human rights achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in the presence of Their Excellency members of the Parliament and representatives of human rights civil society organizations and mass media.
During the seminar, Mr. Abdullah Al-Derazi reviewed NIHR’s history of establishment and course of action, being one of the most important outcomes of the reform project of the King of Bahrain, and the support it receives from His Majesty, stressing the human rights situation of the Kingdom of Bahrain in recent years, particularly since the reform era of His Majesty the King, which takes the human rights situation among its major priorities, being an integrated approach in all human rights areas, both at the level of political and civil action, as well as cultural, economic and social rights, and at the level of religious rights, rights of the handicapped, etc.
His Excellency further noted the great step taken by Kingdom of Bahrain to form an international commission for inquiry and investigation into the existence of violations during the 2011 crisis, which is a major step that has received international acclaim, along with Kingdom’s commitment to implement all the recommendations made by the commission.
For her part, Her Excellency Ms. Maria Khouri stressed that the Ministry of Interior has opened its doors for the NIHR and that most of the problems related to food and health are now being often resolved over the phone without having to send official letters.
Her Excellency noted that the NIHR’s doors are always open to receive any allegation and emphasized NIHR’s full cooperation with everyone.
