Chairman of the Shura Council Receives the 2023 Annual Report of NIHR
His Excellency Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, received today, Wednesday, in the presence of several Council members and the Secretary-General of the Council, Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), along with several NIHR members, who presented a copy of the institution's annual report for 2023.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Shura Council emphasized that Bahrain’s achievements in human rights reinforce the national commitment to human rights principles and enhance rights awareness, in line with the noble humanitarian vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, may God protect him. He expressed pride in Bahrain’s distinguished human rights record and the significant developments and achievements in the field over the past two decades.
The Chairman praised the royal initiatives that have contributed to presenting an exemplary model for promoting and protecting human rights through constitutional and official institutions, as well as the specialized programs implemented by relevant authorities.
He also commended the government's commitment, under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to formulating human rights initiatives and establishing advanced programs that uphold the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of all members of society.
The Chairman praised the NIHR report for its statistics and information, which reflected sincere efforts and national endeavors to achieve the institution's goals and ambitious vision. He emphasized that human rights are an integral part of national principles, noting that the comprehensive report serves as a reference for understanding the distinguished progress in the NIHR’s work and its dedication to monitoring human rights issues and providing advisory opinions to relevant authorities.
The Chairman valued the ongoing cooperation between the Council and the NIHR, as well as the institution's commitment to providing observations on various legislation discussed by the Council. He commended the NIHR’s openness to civil society organizations and its efforts in providing awareness programs and lectures on human rights in Bahrain, along with its diligent pursuit of rights protection for all societal groups.
For his part, Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of the NIHR, expressed gratitude to the Chairman and members of the Shura Council for their legislative role in enhancing human rights-related legislation. He noted the NIHR’s commitment to continuing cooperation and coordination with the Council to reinforce national efforts in the field of human rights, in line with the constitution, the National Action Charter, and evolving laws.
