NIHR Secretary-General receives the Deputy Director of the UN Training and Documentation Center, Coordinator of the Training and Education Unit

Yasser Ghanem Shaheen, the Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Institution (NIHR), received Ms. Ishraq Bin Al Zain, the Deputy Director and Coordinator of the Training and Education Unit in Human Rights at the United Nations Training and Documentation Center for South West Asia and the Arab Region.

In the meeting, Shaheen emphasized the significance of enhancing partnerships between the NIHR and UN mechanisms, particularly regarding human rights training and education. He stressed the ongoing need to evolve training and educational programs to confront emerging challenges in the human rights arena, noting their key role in increasing awareness and boosting skills.

Ms. Bin Al Zain offered insights into the operations and goals of her center, highlighting its contributions through training, education, documentation, and knowledge management in human rights. The discussion also covered strategies for improving future collaborations in training and expertise sharing, as well as planning training courses and workshops intended to foster a culture of human rights across different societal sectors.

This meeting was held alongside a training session organized by the NIHR in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bahrain. This session, which focuses on human rights standards and principles for journalists and media professionals, forms part of the institution’s efforts to enhance and disseminate human rights culture among diverse groups within society. This initiative also illustrates the institution’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with stakeholders and advocates of human rights.
