NIHR Receives a Delegation from the National Commission for Human Rights in the United Arab Emirates
Within the framework of developing mechanisms of cooperation and joint coordination, and exchanging experiences and expertise between the two sides, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has received a delegation of members of the Board of Trustees of the National Commission for Human Rights in the sisterly United Arab Emirates, headed by His Excellency Mr. Maksoud Cruz, Chairman of the Commission, and in the presence of the Chairman and members of the NIHR Board of Commissioners and the Secretary-General.
At the outset of the meeting, Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Dirazi, Chairman of the NIHR, welcomed the visiting delegation to their second country, the Kingdom of Bahrain, stressing the depth of the established and distinguished relations between the two sisterly countries at various levels, and the care and attention this relationship enjoys from His Majesty the King. Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the great king of the country, and his brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the sisterly United Arab Emirates, may God protect them both, thanks to which many achievements have been made on various tracks of joint cooperation for the benefit and development of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.
Al-Dirazi gave a brief on the methodology of the NIHR's work, in which he discussed the objectives and terms of reference of the NIHR as stipulated in its Establishment Law, and the role it plays in dealing with human rights issues, in addition to its advisory role in submitting recommendations related to human rights to the legislative and executive authorities in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Then the heads of the NIHR permanent committees, namely the Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up , the Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms and the Committee on Visiting Places of Detention and Facilities, gave an overview of the work of their committees with regard to receiving complaints from citizens, residents, agencies and bodies via various means and methods, in terms of studying and researching them and determining the best ways to deal with them, and preparing proposals and recommendations in everything that would promote and protect civil, political, economic, social and cultural human rights, as well as declared and unannounced field visits that are carried out in accordance with the procedures followed to monitor human rights conditions in correctional institutions, rehabilitation centres, places of arrest and detention, and health and educational centres, and preparing appropriate reports thereof.
On the other hand, the two sides discussed issues of common interest between the two sisterly countries in the areas of human rights, touching upon the human rights situation in the region, as well as the latest events and developments in this field, emphasising the importance of joint coordination between the two sides in the fields of joint training and education and uniting efforts between the two parties in order to consolidate the bonds of cooperation to promote and spread a culture of human rights.
For his part, His Excellency Mr. Maksoud Cruz, Chairman of the National Commission for Human Rights in the sisterly United Arab Emirates, stressed the depth of fraternal relations and historical ties that bind them with their brothers in the Kingdom, and the importance of activating means of cooperation in a way that supports efforts aimed at achieving common goals, wishing the Kingdom of Bahrain and its brotherly people more progress and prosperity.
