NIHR Receives the 3rd Batch of Human Rights Diploma Program Students of the Royal Police Academy

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) received at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef District the 3rd batch of Human Rights Diploma Program students of the Royal Police Academy.  This visit was one of the field visits organized by the Royal Police Academy to the ministries and institutions concerned with human rights, in order to familiarize participants with the work performed by such bodies and the services they provide in the field of human rights respect and enhancement, and provide them with practical skills in this field.

The delegate member and Chairperson of the NIHR’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Ms. Maria Khouri welcomed the participants and acknowledged the importance of the role adopted by the Royal Academy of Police in the field of police training on the human rights concepts as well as the Academy’s persistent cooperation with the NIHR in this field in order to consolidate the international standards and concepts of human rights for the police officers by training them on exercising such standards in their everyday contacts, the matter which raises the capabilities of the law enforcement police in this field and their awareness of how to deal with the human rights issues.

On the sidelines of the visit, Ms. Maria Khouri gave an introductory lecture on the NIHR’s role in the enhancement and protection of human rights in Bahrain.  She further addressed the NIHR’s terms of reference in the field of human rights protection as well as mechanism of receiving and follow-up on complaints.
