NIHR receives Senior Advisor of EU Delegation

Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), received MR. Alexis Konstantopoulos, Senior Advisor of the EU Delegation to the Kingdom of Bahrain, in the presence of Mr. Abdulla Alderazi, NIHR’s Vice President, and Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al Fadhel, NIHR’s Secretary General.

During the meeting, Ms. Khoury stressed the importance of continued enhancement and development of the relations with the European Union, expressing at the same time her appreciation for the good efforts and the role of Mr. Konstantopoulos in this area.

The two sides discussed the upcoming parliamentary and municipal elections and the NIHR’s essential role in observing the course of those elections.  Ms. Khoury stressed that the NIHR shall work with its broad mandate to observe the course of the elections through field presence in a number of polling centers to ensure integrity, fairness and smooth procedures of the elections and shall issue its report after the end of the 2^nd stage of the electoral process.

For his part, Mr. Konstantopoulos expressed his appreciation for the great efforts of the NIHR for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, praising the recent significant development in the work of the NIHR, wishing the Kingdom of Bahrain eternal progress and advancement of its human rights and democracy march.
