The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) welcomed the royal pardon issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, granting special pardon and the release of 896 inmates, including individuals convicted in various cases who have served portions of their sentences. The pardon also extended to several individuals under alternative sentencing programmes.

The royal pardon decree coincides with Bahrain’s celebrations of its National Days and the 25th anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to the throne.

On this occasion, Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of the NIHR, expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty on behalf of himself and the NIHR's Board of Commissioners. He lauded the royal gesture as a wise and compassionate initiative that enhances the celebratory spirit of the national occasions, fostering unity and solidarity among Bahrainis.

Alderazi emphasised that the royal pardon underscores Bahrain’s commitment to human rights principles, reflecting its significant regional role in this domain. He noted that the decision aligns with the Kingdom’s vision to promote social harmony and comprehensive development for all segments of society, guided by the forward-looking leadership of His Majesty the King.
