NIHR’s Committee on General Rights and Freedoms participates in the 4th Workshop of National Human Rights Action Plan in the Kingdom of Bahrain
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) participated in the 4th workshop for the National Human Rights Action Plan in the Kingdom of Bahrain titled: “The Role of National Institutions and Civil Society Organizations in the Promotion and Development of Human Rights”, which was held by teleconference with the participation of a large number of specialists, including the UN Resident Coordinator in the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as experts, academics, the press, the media, heads of diplomatic missions abroad and social and cultural associations and clubs.
In her speech, Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the NIHR, dealt with three main themes, which included a brief on the work of the NIHR, its role in the national human rights action plan and its strategy and action plans, stating that the NIHR attempts to promote, protect and consolidate human rights and spread awareness and ensure the practice thereof, noting that the NIHR is an independent institution that undertakes everything related to human rights, has a financially and administratively independent legal entity and exercises its functions in a completely free and impartial manner.
Ms. Khoury stated that, in order for the NIHR to achieve its goals, it has the freedom to comment on any issue related to human rights and to deal with any human rights case it deems appropriate, pointing out that the NIHR is also concerned with participation in preparing the national plan for the promotion and protection of human rights all over the Kingdom, by virtue of its Incorporation Law, especially Article (12) thereof, reviewing the most prominent points and opinions that have been proposed in the national human rights plan, including the development of an applicable, transparent and public national project in which everyone participates, which has an international dimension.
