Launching Human Rights Training Program for National Security Staff
In order to activate the memorandum of understanding signed between the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) and the Office of the Inspector-General of the National Security Agency, a training program for the National Security staff will commence tomorrow at the NIHR Training Center.
Mr. Mohamed bin Rashid Al-Rumaihi, Inspector-General of the National Security Agency, expressed his appreciation for the efforts exerted in spreading the culture of human rights to the law enforcement personnel of the security services, stressing that this program will raise awareness of national, regional and international human rights mechanisms in accordance with the principles and purposes stipulated in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as the international and regional human rights instruments.
For his part, Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al-Fadel, Secretary-General of the NIHR, stated that the human rights training program for the National Security staff includes four workshops and educational lectures from January to September 2018 and targets the training of 160 members of the National Security Agency, where the said programs shall focus on the national human rights mechanisms, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (commonly known as the United Nations Convention against Torture (UNICAT) and the Optional Protocol, as well as a review of the international treaty mechanisms of the Human Rights Council.
Dr. Al-Fadel also stressed that the training held by the NIHR to members of the National Security Agency is part of the strategy of raising awareness of human rights pursued by the NIHR in accordance with its Establishment Law.
