NIHR conducting a field visit to the detention center at the South Hamad Police Station
The Detention & Facilities Visitation Committee of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) conducted a monitoring visit to the detention center at the South Hamad Police Station, in accordance with its broad mandate to safeguard and advance human rights as outlined in its establishing legislation. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the human rights situation and ensure that detainees' rights, as stipulated by national laws and international standards, were being upheld.
During the visit, the committee received an overview of the detention center's procedures concerning the provisional safeguarding of detainees' rights and responsibilities. Additionally, they engaged with several detainees, attentively listening to their perspectives and documenting their feedback for appropriate action by relevant authorities.
