NIHR Participates in the 8th Meeting of the Eurasian Ombudsmen Alliance

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by its Chairman Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, has participated in the 8th meeting of the Eurasian Ombudsmen Alliance (EOA), which was held in Moscow, the capital of Russia, chaired by the High Commission of Human Rights in the Russian Federation.
At the beginning of the meeting, the NIHR's request to join the EOA was reviewed, where it was voted as a new member in the EOA, to be the first Arab institution that accedes to this Alliance that serves as a platform for dialogue on ensuring, developing and strengthening cooperation between the Ombudsmen boards and national institutions in the areas of human rights protection, noting that the EOA includes in its membership national human rights institutions (Ombudsmen boards) in a number of countries, including but not limited to Armenia, Mongolia, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.
For his part, Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the NIHR, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation for the announcement of the acceptance of the NIHR as a member of the EOA, stating the NIHR's keenness to strengthen cooperation and coordination with members of the EOA to achieve common goals and aspirations to protect and promote human rights.
Within the agenda of the 8th meeting, Al-Derazi presented a worksheet on exchanging best practices on current issues related to the protection of human rights in the field of health care and medical assistance, in which he touched on the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in supporting the enjoyment of the highest level of health by providing health care at various levels, to all citizens and residents, in addition to providing the necessary health care, preventive and therapeutic services for residents of correction and rehabilitation centres, as well as the best practices that the Kingdom has adopted in this regard, through the issuance of relevant national laws and legislation, and the NIHR's role in following-up on the State's implementation of its obligations with regard to providing treatment and health care, and the recent transfer of health care for inmates of correction and rehabilitation centres from the Ministry of Interior to the Ministry of Health, which works to implement all the precautionary measures and medical protocols in-force in order to protect the health and safety of all inmates and to provide integrated health care by specialized medical staff.
