NIHR and Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Sign a Collaboration Agreement
Based upon the meetings that were held with the friendly Federal Republic of Germany, and the ways reviewed to enhance bilateral collaboration and increase coordination during the next phase with regard to files of common interest and issues related to human rights to meet common aspirations and goals, Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), and Mr. Clemens Hach, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany accredited to the Kingdom of Bahrain, signed an agreement that aims to cooperate in the field of promoting human rights, within the competencies determined by the national legislation for each party, as well as to exchange information and technical cooperation between them.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the NIHR stated the importance of signing this agreement in which the two parties will act, within the limit of their competencies, according to a joint mechanism, to contribute to promoting awareness of the culture of human rights, noting that the NIHR intends to expand its approach by joint collaboration with Arab and international bodies, in an effort to exchange expertise and raise the efficiency of performance, in accordance with the best international practices related to human rights, which will contribute to promoting a culture of human rights and its pillars of freedom, equality, justice and human dignity.
For his part, German Ambassador Clemens Hach praised the NIHR’s work, led by Eng. Ali Al-Derazi, to continue improving the human rights situation in Bahrain, and stated the
importance of the contribution that civil society organizations can make to the protection of human rights. He expressed his satisfaction with the upcoming collaboration between the NIHR and the Republic of Germany to improve and develop the capabilities of civil society institutions in the field of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The agreement aims to consolidate coordination and increase collaboration between the two parties regarding human rights principles, and to strengthen, encourage, disseminate, and develop them. The collaboration includes technical support for the NIHR to enhance and develop the capabilities of civil society institutions in the field of human rights, and to familiarise them with international human rights standards related to their work, by organising training courses and workshops specialised in the field of human rights.
