NIHR Visits an Inmate at Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo Community Medical Centre
In line with the broad mandate the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) entrusted with in the field of protection and promotion of human rights, and the jurisdiction granted to it under the provisions of its Establishment Law, the NIHR Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities conducted an inspection visit to Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo Community Medical Centre on 19 June 2023 to ascertain the status of an inmate and the extent to which he enjoys his rights guaranteed under national legislation and international human rights standards.
During the visit, the inmate was interviewed, but he refused to talk about his health condition. Based upon the jurisdiction granted to the NIHR in the field of promoting and protecting human rights, and giving priority to the best interests of the inmate, the NIHR communicated with the concerned authorities to find out the health status of the inmate, and to ensure the provision of appropriate treatment and healthcare for him, as well as the provision of the necessary medical supplies that guarantee him the enjoyment of this right, in accordance with the national legislation and international human rights instruments.
