NIHR Releases Its Report on the 2024 Supplementary Parliamentary Election Process

19 Dec 2024

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has released its report on the monitoring of the supplementary parliamentary election process in the first district of Muharraq Governorate in the Kingdom of Bahrain for the year 2024. This action is part of the institution’s granted authorities and its commitment to enhancing and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms on the ground. NIHR monitored and documented all stages of the 2024 supplementary election process, beginning from the decision of the Court of Cassation regarding the annulment of the membership of the representative from the first district in Muharraq, through the pre-election day stages, and concluding with the end of the electoral challenge submission period.

Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, the Chairperson of NIHR, stated that this report is a follow-up to the institution's 2022 report. It documents the institution's observations and key activities associated with this process. He noted that the monitoring involved deploying the institution’s commissioners and the staff of the General Secretariat across various polling and counting committees. This was to ensure the election's integrity, fairness, and proper conduct, and to verify the smoothness of the procedures, thereby producing observations and recommendations that aim to enhance the conduct of the electoral process and ensure maximum participation from voters and candidates, enabling them to exercise their political rights in future cycles.

Alderazi also mentioned, "A copy of the report can be immediately obtained by visiting the specific section for parliamentary and municipal election monitoring reports on the NIHR's website." He highlighted that the report includes the legal basis and the organizational procedures undertaken by the institution at various stages, along with the final recommendations resulting from its monitoring of the 2024 supplementary elections in Muharraq Governorate.
