NIHR" and "Bahrain Bar Association" Sign Memorandum of Understanding

Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), and Mr. Salah Ahmed Al Madfa, Chairman of the Bahrain Bar Association, recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the NIHR headquarters in Seef. The MoU, witnessed by board members from both institutions, aims to enhance cooperation, coordination, and consultation in areas of mutual interest.

During the signing, Chairperson Alderazi commended the Bahrain Bar Association for its pivotal role in nurturing the legal profession, upholding its traditions, and safeguarding the independence, freedom, and immunity of lawyers. He emphasized that the MoU underpins the commitment of both parties to bolster coordination and collaboration in fortifying the principles of human rights, exchanging expertise, and promoting and disseminating these rights. Alderazi noted that the MoU also focuses on developing operational frameworks and facilities to achieve common objectives and establish a cooperative mechanism that strengthens the role of each entity and fosters inter-agency coordination.

Al Madfa, expressing his profound gratitude to the Chairperson of the NIHR, stated, "This memorandum reflects our collective dedication to enhancing human rights and advancing efforts to broaden their understanding and respect." He reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to these goals and expressed enthusiasm about the prospective fruitful and constructive cooperation. Al Madfa anticipates that this partnership will yield significant advancements in human rights endeavors, encompassing defense of rights, education, and raising awareness about their significance.

Furthermore, the MoU encapsulates a wide range of collaborative efforts, including the exchange of visits and consultations, sharing of publications and materials, joint preparation of reports and studies on human rights, and the organization of events, conferences, and educational programs, notably training for new lawyers. It also includes a commitment to review and potentially revise legislation and regulations to better align with human rights principles.
