NIHR Council of Commissioners Receive Head of the European Union’s Arabian Peninsula Division
Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has received HE Mrs. Anna Maria Panagiotakopolo, Head of the Arabian Peninsula and Iraq Division of the European External Action Service of the European Union, and her accompanying delegation, in the presence of Chancellor Yasser Ghanem Shahin, NIHR Secretary-General, at the NIHR headquarters in the Seef district.
At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Derazi welcomed the visiting delegation, praising the progress and development witnessed by the bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the European Union at all levels, stating the importance of such visits to review the progress and development taking place in the Kingdom in various fields, especially human rights, which is replete with many achievements made during the reform era of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Great King of the Country.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of issues of common interest, the NIHR’s role in dealing with those issues to find out the most essential facts and processes, as well as the NIHR’s mechanism of action and its role in disseminating, promoting and protecting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The two sides also discussed enhancing aspects of cooperation in the human rights and legal fields, especially with regard to organizing conferences and workshops, exchanging successful experiences and training national staff in the fields of the work of national human rights institutions.
For her part, Mrs. Panagiotakopolo extended her thanks for the warm reception, stating the importance of the NIHR’s role in protecting and promoting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, wishing the Kingdom of Bahrain and its people further progress and prosperity.
