NIHR Attends a Trial Hearing
Based upon the broad mandate granted to the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) in the field of the protection and promotion of human rights, and the jurisdiction granted to it under the provisions of its Establishment Law, the NIHR attended a trial hearing of a defendant before the First High Criminal Court of Appeal to find out about the course of the trial and to monitor possible violations of one of the litigants’ rights within the framework of a fair trial in accordance with the provisions of international standards and national legislation related to human rights.
The NIHR considered that there was no suspicion of a legal violation of the right to fair trial guarantees, as all parties, including the defendant, were heard, and the defence team was allowed to submit defence statements and oral pleadings.
