National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) participates in the meetings of 29th session of the International Coordinating Committee (ICC)

A National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) delegation  headed by HE Mr. Abdullah Alderazi Vice President of the National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR), in addition to members of the Council of Commissioners Ms. Jamila Salman, Miss Maria Khoury, Dr. Bader Adel, Dr. Hameed Hussein, Dr. Mona Hajis and Mr. Fahad Almuala, Director of Information Technology and Communication at the Secretariat-General of NIHR, participated in the meeting of the meeting of the Executive Bureau of the International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions ICC at the Palais des Nations in Geneva as an observer in the Executive Bureau of the (ICC), in preparation for the 29th annual general meeting of the international coordinating Committee of national institutions for human rights (ICC).

The Executive Bureau discussed regional challenges and their implications and future steps to avoid these challenges, in addition to the proposed amendments to Statute of the International Coordinating Committee and a report on developments concerning the work of the Sub-Committee for Accreditation (SCA) of the ICC on the Strategic Plan.  The meeting also discussed the work of the  National Institutions and Regional Mechanisms Section (NIRMS) at the High Commissioner for human right Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations Development Programme, as well as a round-table discussion on the report of accreditation which was held last year.

The meeting discussed a report on European Union funding, United Nations Development Programme and the funding for the International Coordinating Committee, as well as the work of the Office of the Commission in Geneva, and report on progress and issues related to strategic its plan. The National Institution for Human Rights also participated in the regional meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum on Human Rights (APF) as observer.

For his part, HE Mr. Abdullah Al-derazi Vice President of the National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR), head of the NIHR's delegation, stressed that the participation of members of the Council of Commissioners in this assembly is an added value to the NIHR to accumulate experiences for members of the Council of Commissioners by promoting and creating communication channels regarding the activities among the four regional groups of national human rights institutions (namely,  AFP, Africa, Europe and the Americas) and to enhance their capacities, especially since the NIHR has applied for accreditation from the Subcommittee on Accreditation, which will be considered at a meeting of the Committee during the period from 9 to May 13, 2016.
