NIHR welcomes the Opening of the Medical Clinic for Prisoners at Correction and Rehabilitation Centres
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) welcomes the opening of the medical clinic for providing healthcare services to prisoners at the correction and rehabilitation centres, which is among the efforts of the Directorate-General for Correction and Rehabilitation to provide integrated health care and services for the prisoners at the correction and rehabilitation centres without exception, with a view to preserving their lives and safety, with a special consideration for human rights standards while applying health protocols.
The NIHR states the right to health care, which is a guaranteed constitutional right that is strictly granted to everyone, including prisoners at correction and rehabilitation centres, without discrimination.
The NIHR, within the framework of its oversight role, as part of its plan to follow-up on the application of standards related to the protection and promotion of human rights, states that it works to implement a number of periodic field visits to the correction and rehabilitation basis, in order to ensure the quality of health services provided to prisoners, and to ascertain the commitment to providing them with appropriate health care, in a way that ensures the continued improvement of the provided services.
