NIHR considers Promoting Cooperation with a Number of Embassies in Bahrain
Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), held a teleconference meeting with Their Excellency Mrs. Paula Amadi, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy, Mr. Kai Boeckmann, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany and Mr. Jerome Cauchard, Ambassador of the Republic of France, to the Kingdom of Bahrain, in the presence of Mr. Khaled Alshaer, NIHR Vice Chairperson, within the framework of the permanent cooperation between the NIHR and foreign embassies to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
During the meeting, Ms. Khoury touched on the NIHR’s role in the National Human Rights Plan, through the continuous coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and legislative authority in various related themes, with a view to promoting, developing and protecting human rights, consolidating their values, spreading awareness of them and ensuring contribution to free and independent exercise thereof.
Ms. Khoury also touched on the NIHR’s efforts under the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) in educating citizens and residents through the statements and tweets issued by it, as well as the visits conducted by a number of its delegates to isolation and quarantine centres to review the procedures taken by those authorities to provide medical services to the infected people and those in direct contact with them pursuant to international standards. In the same context, Mr. Alshaer touched on the field visits to correction, rehabilitation and detention centres during the Ashura season 2020, with a view to closely reviewing the continued exercise of religious rites by male and female inmates of those centres in accordance with the relevant international human rights standards and the rules and regulations of the correction and rehabilitation centres.
For their part, their excellencies the ambassadors expressed their appreciation for the NIHR’s tireless efforts to promote and protect human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, praising at the same time the Kingdom’s efforts to promote peace in the region, stressing their readiness to support the NIHR actions to empower it to support the efforts aimed at achieving its goals.
