Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), announced the adoption of an integrated programme for the upcoming field visits to correction, rehabilitation and detention centres during the Ashura season 1445 AH, within the framework of the human rights and monitoring role of the NIHR within its terms of reference.
Al-Derazi said, "We have coordinated and arranged to visit correction, rehabilitation and detention centres over a period of several days, during which we will determine to find out the extent to which the inmates of those centres enjoy practicing their religious rites freely and comfortably in a manner that does not constitute harm or infringement on the freedom and privacy of other inmates of all religions and sects.
Al-Derazi stated the importance of ensuring that all inmates continue to practice their religious rites, in line with the international standards relating to protecting the rights of inmates and ensuring their enjoyment of all basic rights, especially the right to practicing religious rights, with the importance of observing the rules and regulations of the correction and rehabilitation centres.
Al-Derazi pointed out that the NIHR will issue its report in those visits, showing the procedures and services carried out by the Centre's management with regard to the inmates' practice of their religious rites, within a framework of transparency and clarity to protect and consolidate human rights.
