National Institution for Human Rights receives the U.S.A Commission on International Religious Freedom
His Excellency Mr. Abdullah Al Derazi, Vice-Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), received Mr. Dwight Bashir, Deputy Director of Policy and Research at the U.S.A Commission on International Religious Freedom and accompanying delegation during their visit to the country.
At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency Vice- Chairperson welcomed Mr. Bashir and briefed the visiting delegation on the track record of the Kingdom of Bahrain in light of openness and tolerance it is witnessing in the field of religious freedoms for all denominations in the prosperous era of His Majesty the King of Bahrain, who has allowed for a wide space of freedoms and respect for human rights through his support of rights-organizations, including the NIHR.
The Vice- Chairperson explained the law establishing the NIHR to the visiting delegation, in addition to the NIHR's goals and action strategy, reviewing its committees, activities, efforts, and roles that it undertakes to follow-up on relevant human rights related cases with the different governmental and non-governmental entities, as well as its field-visits to prisons or gatherings that its work on solving problems and preparing reports for through mutual cooperation between the institute and the bodies concerned. His Excellency stressed that the NIHR contributes massively in the development of real human rights practices through great collaboration in the field of human rights with European human rights organizations with regards to the provision of necessary training to all relevant positions in the legal and human rights field in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
On his part, Mr. Bashir commended the efforts exerted by the NIHR and its effective role on both regional and international levels to shed light on the attained level of civilizational achievements and human rights gains in the Kingdom of Bahraini. He expressed gratitude for the generous reception and hospitality in addition to the NIHR's provision of answers to the Commission’s inquiries and questions.
The Commission’s visit program included a tour in the NIHR's divisions, where they were briefed on the training center and the NIHR library, as well as the complaints office. The meeting was attended by Counselor-at-law Mr. Yasser Shaheen, acting Secretary-General, and Mr. Fahad Al-Mualla, Director of Information and Communication Technology at the NIHR's Secretariat- General.
