NIHR Conducts a Visit to the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre in Jaw Region
Based upon the broad mandate granted to the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) in the field of protecting and promoting human rights, and the jurisdiction granted to it under the provisions of its Establishment Law, the NIHR Committee for Visiting Detention Places and Facilities conducted an inspection visit to the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre in Jaw region, in order to ensure that inmates enjoy all their prescribed rights in accordance with international standards and national legislation related to human rights.
During the visit, the NIHR delegation met with two inmates, listened to their requests and took notes in preparation for submitting them to the competent authorities, each according to their competence, where the majority of their requests centred on the living conditions in the centre, and emphasising their availability, and rights to healthcare and fair trial guarantees.
