NIHR conducts a field visit to the Rehabilitation and Reform Center in (Jau)
Based on observations and requests received by the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) from a group of inmates' relatives at the Rehabilitation and Reform Center in (Jau), concerning the services provided to them and their living conditions, a delegation led by Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of the NIHR, along with several members of the Council of Commissioners, conducted a field visit to the center to perform an objective and comprehensive assessment of the center's conditions.
During the visit, the delegation met with the center’s officials to assess their compliance with laws that ensure human rights according to international standards.
The delegation also met with representatives from some buildings in the mentioned center, who presented their observations and requests. In this context, the delegation verified the services provided, allowing them to evaluate the procedures taken by the management and ensure their effectiveness in guaranteeing the inmates' rights.
Based on the information gathered during this visit, the NIHR will prepare a detailed report that includes a full assessment of the situation at the Rehabilitation and Reform Center and will present its recommendations. This report will be submitted to the relevant authorities to ensure the continuation of care and protection for the inmates, in accordance with national laws and international human rights standards.
The NIHR wishes to highlight its observation of the ongoing commitment to ensuring that inmates enjoy all rights guaranteed by local laws and international human rights standards, including the right to health, education, and communication with the outside world, and the importance of providing a safe and healthy environment that respects human rights and enhances the possibilities for rehabilitating inmates and integrating them into society after their sentence has been served.
