NIHR Participates in the International Conference on “Climate Changes and Human Rights”
Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has participated in the international conference on “Climate Changes and Human Rights”, which was held in Doha, capital of Qatar, for two consecutive days, organised by the National Human Rights Commission, in cooperation with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UNDP, the League of Arab States and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).
The conference discussed several issues facing humanity on climate change and human rights, the implications and obligations, and the role played by the UN and its mechanisms in advancing climate action based on human rights.
In its general recommendations, the conference called on states and stakeholders to work together to ensure that human rights law, principles, and standards are the cornerstone of governments' efforts to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change to reduce losses and damages, and to study ways to adapt to climate change and mitigate its effects. in an ambitious, inclusive and rights-based manner in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 16).
