NIHR receive a delegation of US Senate staff
His Excellency, Counselor-at-Law Yasser Ghanim Shaheen, NIHR's Acting Secretary-General, received at the NIHR's headquarter in the Seef District a delegation of the US Senate staff in the presence of Mr. Fahd Al-Mualla, Director of Information Technology and Communication and Mr. Ali Al Bahar, Director of Training and Education.
At the beginning of the meeting, HE the Acting Secretary-General, Counselor-at-Law Yasser Ghanim Shaheen welcomed the US Delegation who currently visiting the country to witness the achievements made by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of human rights. His Excellency briefed the visiting delegation on the human rights situation within the Kingdom and the role played by the NIHR in dealing with the these issues in accordance with the mandate entrusted to it under the era of reform adopted by His Majesty the King, who guaranteed a wide range of freedoms and respect for HR principles through by His Majesty's support for HR Institutions including the National Institution for Human Rights. This also includes the issuance of national legislations and the accession to international conventions related to maintaining and protecting human rights.
HE the Acting Secretary-General presented an explanation for the delegation on the NIHR establishment law, the objectives and the work strategy thereof. Moreover, he touched on the committees, activities, efforts and roles thereof regarding the follow up on the issues related to human rights matters with the various government authorities, other relevant government and non-government institution and the private entities. HE the Acting Secretary-General also briefed the delegation on the visits made by the NIHR to the prisons and the labor gatherings to inspect their conditions, to identify their complaints and to work on solving such complaints through cooperation between the NIHR and the authorities concerned and preparing reports in this regard.
On his part, Mr. Fahd Al Ali, Director of Information Technology and Communication, spoke about the mechanism of receiving complaints via the NIHR's new website or through smart phones applications. He stressed that this feature is the first of its kind thereof at the level of national institutions in the world and comes out of the concern of HE the Chairperson of National Institution for Human Rights Dr. Abdul Aziz Abul to develop and upgrade the communication mechanisms with nationals and residents in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Mr. Ali Al Bahar, Director of Training and Education, presented a summary of the training programs run by the NIHR, including the junior lawyers training program, future judges program in cooperation with the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC University of Bahrain's Legal Clinic and Human Right Program as well as joint courses and workshops for disseminating and enhancing the human rights culture.
Head of the US delegation, Mr. Drew, expressed his thanks for the warm hospitality and good reception and commended the efforts exerted by the NIHR in field of human rights through creating an electronic mechanism to receive complaints and the its endeavor to assume its national responsibility in a great and distinguished way.
The visit program of the US Senate delegation included a tour in the departments of the NIHR, during which they visited the training center and the NIHR library as well as complaints receiving office.
